First water experiences, right in your own home

Bathing in the tub represents one of the newborn’s first forms of contact with the aquatic environment. In a familiar and safe space, the baby begins to discover water, movement, and relaxation in a natural way.

Bathtub swimming can typically begin at around 2–3 weeks after birth, once the umbilical cord has fully healed.

These early activities contribute to the child’s harmonious development and represent an important preparatory stage for aquatic activities that will take place later in the pool.

Benefits of baby swimming in the bathtub

Aquatic activities done at home can have numerous benefits for the child’s physical and emotional development:

strengthens the bond and trust between parent and child

stimulates the development of the baby’s natural movements

supports early motor development

helps reduce muscle tension or asymmetries

can alleviate discomfort caused by colic and tummy aches

provides a state of relaxation and comfort for the child

Recommendations for conducting activities

Bathtub swimming takes place at home, at a suitable time in the baby’s schedule. For the experience to be pleasant, it is recommended that the activity takes place when the child:

  • is not hungry
  • is not tired
  • is in a calm and relaxed state

Respecting the child’s natural rhythm is essential for a positive experience.

Gymnastics and massage for babies

In the first months of life, gymnastics and massage exercises can play an important role in the child’s development. They help the baby discover their own body and adapt more easily to the extrauterine environment.

By stimulating motor skills and exploring natural movements, the child gradually develops coordination and mobility.
